Caroline Goward - aka Cazza

Cazza is Level 2 MTB Instructor with thirty years of mountain biking and cyclocross racing experience. She has worked for Scott Sports for 22 years as both key accounts manager and brand ambassador. 

 

COURSE AUDIENCE 
For complete beginners and women who are new to singletrack mountain biking. For both electric and non-electric mountain bikers.

DESCRIPTION

Do you;

  • Have little faith in your riding ability off road?

  • Use you brakes whenever you bike points downwards?

  • Creep slowly over obstacles?

  • Stop frequently?

  • Ride sitting in your saddle all of the time?

  • Or are you just plain annoyed with your ‘other half’ when they say, “oh come on just ride it, you’ll be fine”, without giving any tips?

 

Well, hopefully we can help! 

 

Caroline’s course will cover the following skills to improve your riding, increase your confidence and keep you safer.

 

  • Basic bike set-up & checks

  • Understanding and setting your suspension

  • Trail riding etiquette

  • Correct body position for confident riding

  • Understanding traction

  • Braking skills

  • Slow speed manoeuvres

  • Clearing roots and small logs

  • Basic climbing and descending techniques

  • Introduction to single track and small drop offs

REQUIREMENTS

 Participant must have:

  • Basic cycling skills

  • A capable MTB 

  • Wear a helmet, gloves & trainers

  • Wear knee and elbow pads

COURSE AUDIENCE 
This course is for confident mountain bikers who would like to progress from Blue trails to Red technical trails. Red trails are often long and challenging, and have slippy roots, tricky rock gardens, drop-offs and speed! All of which require confidence, bike control and sound technique.

Saturday

  • Preparation, hydration & nutrition

  • Bike set-up & suspension  

  • Ready position & weight shift

  • Descending

  • Front wheel lift, leading into step-ups

  • Rear wheel lifts

  • Pump and flow

  • Finding the fastest line, looking at exit

  • Riding a berm

  • Cornering at speed

  • Drop offs

  • Jumping introduction

  • Descending

  • Rooty, rocky sections

 

 

REQUIREMENTS

 Participant must have:​

  • A full suspension bike is recommended

  • Good fitness & capable MTB skills

  • Wear a helmet, gloves & trainers

  • Wear knee and elbow pads
